Going Main Street…DC Style

MainSt_bus_shelter_signAs you’re walking around the city, bus banners, newspaper ads and Metro station signs that say “Meet Us on DC Main Streets” may catch your eye.

The DC Department of Small and Local Business (DLSBD), The Historical Society of Washington DC and leaders of the eight DC Main Streets worked with OmniStudio to create a colorful campaign to raise awareness for some of our longest standing business communities in the Nation’s Capital.

The Meet Us on DC Main Streets campaign began showcasing businesses within each of the eight neighborhoods during the holiday season, when shopping and eating local is so important to the financial health of small businesses. DC’s nonprofit Main Street program has helped revitalize city neighborhoods, attract new businesses, and create jobs.

Omni’s Art Director, Kathy Foltin, featured the neighborhoods in advertisements and posters using Main Street photography that captures the spirit and diversity of all the business districts represented.

The current eight DC Main Streets include:

In many of the neighborhoods, you’ll also find historic markers with vintage photos showing what the street was like decades ago.

The Historical Society is delighted to work with the DLSBD and OmniStudio to feature these great D.C. main streets,” said Historical Society Executive Director John Suau. “This campaign links the rich heritage of these historic commercial areas with the present-day businesses that bring new energy to Washington’s neighborhoods.”

We hope you will support DC Main Streets during the holidays and throughout the year. Have fun exploring the eight communities where you’ll discover new restaurants, shops, and historic sites around every corner.
