Washingtonian, Artists and Non-Profits Tap Omni for Specialty Services

Washingtonian magazine counts on its lush and colorful covers to catch readers’ eyes as they browse retail newsstands. To help build its brand and draw people into local bookstores, the magazine works with OmniStudio to create poster-size covers for display.

Using our state-of-the-art, in-house equipment, Omni is able to enlarge, print, laminate and mount posters of Washingtonian magazine covers every month for display in area bookstores.

“We have posters in Borders stores throughout the region to promote the magazine,” said Sara Widger, circulation manager at Washingtonian. “They’re easy to read, nice and crisp, and you can see them from a good distance away.”

Washingtonian comes to Omni for poster-size prints of its magazine covers to display in area bookstores when a new issue hits newsstands every month.

Since Omni began printing the posters in 2007, Washingtonian has received positive feedback from the public, including some who have requested the poster-size covers to decorate their homes once they are removed from display.

Omni’s production department provides a variety of exhibit products for trade shows, meetings and point-of-purchase displays, as well as pop-up backdrops and hanging banners. These services supplement Omni’s online and print communication design services.

“We really have become a one-stop shop for many of our clients,” said Terry Amthor, Omni’s display services manager. “They bring us their ideas and we’re able to transform them in house from concept to completion, whether it’s a poster, an art print, a trade show banner or a large-format map or chart.”

Omni is frequently asked to print special promotional materials and artwork on vinyl, canvas and archival paper, as well.

Washington artist Sidney Lawrence uses Omni’s production services to produce prints of his artwork to sell to collectors.

“OmniStudio’s production of top-quality, limited-edition digital reproductions of my city drawings has always been exceptional,” said Sidney Lawrence, a Washington artist who uses Omni’s production services to produce prints to sell to collectors. “The extra effort they make is much appreciated.”

Amthor works closely with Lawrence to capture the fine details in each print.

Omni also offers clients a full complement of digital document resources, including high-quality scanning and online archiving services, along with CD/DVD duplication and packaging.

That service proved useful for American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) when the nonprofit wanted to distribute an informational campaign on DVD. In addition to duplicating and labeling the DVDs, Omni produced the DVD cases, which were printed with ANERA’s uniquely branded artwork.

“We were able to come up with an attractive and cost effective solution for ANERA,” said Amthor, “because we had all the elements of their visual identity within our studio.”
