New Sewall-Belmont House Site Connects Museum with Constituents and Donors
The Sewall-Belmont House & Museum celebrates women’s progress toward equality, explores the evolving role of women and their contributions to society, and serves as the headquarters for the historic National Woman’s Party (NWP). The more than 200-year-old house has many fascinating stories to tell, but its original website didn’t clearly communicate the museum’s significance, breadth and depth of its collection.
OmniStudio recently redesigned the museum’s website to address not only these problems, but to also reflect recent museum renovations to bring about a more current, interactive visitor experience.
In addition to revamping the site’s look and navigation, the museum’s new online presence helps the museum to connect more directly with constituents by integrating social media, including a live Twitter stream and real-time blog updates.
“The ability to interact with visitors through photos, video, social media and more is incredibly useful for communicating with new and returning audiences,” said Elisabeth Crum, public programs and outreach manager at Sewall-Belmont House & Museum. “Now, and more so in the future, users will be able to interact with the museum virtually—this is a big improvement.”
To streamline the museum’s data management, collection and reporting, Omni integrated a customer relationship management (CRM) tool powered by NEON into the new site. NEON helps the museum manage its membership information, program/event registration, ticket sales, donations and its online store sales.
“The CRM tool is really robust and helpful,” Crum said. “The amount of data captured and organized is extraordinary, and the ability to sync across multiple user types (members, donors, event registration [and] shop sales) is fabulous!”
The Sewall-Belmont House & Museum staff was happy with the online collection and cataloging software, PastPerfect, that was used on their original site, so Omni seamlessly integrated the platform into the new site’s design, look and feel, maintaining visual consistency throughout the online collection.
Because the museum has a small staff, the new site had to be user friendly on the backend to administer quick and easy updates to the site’s content. Omni designed the site on the easy-to-use WordPress platform, which worked great with their new CRM.
“It’s much easier to add, change and update content than on the old site,” Crum said.
