Healthpolicyforum.org Engages and Informs Altarum’s Community of Policy Experts
When Altarum Institute launched its website in 2009, the nonprofit health systems research and consulting organization didn’t realize the potential for growth within its blogging community.
The organization soon discovered that altarum.org’s blog content—which consists of health policy news and commentary—outgrew the structure and functionality of its original design. In 2011 Altarum launched a new and expanded blog site: healthpolicyforum.org to make it easier for its growing readership to find content and engage in conversations with the organization.
“We wanted to create a much more sophisticated and robust experience for the users to match the content, which has grown in frequency and sophistication since we launched the blog, from only occasional postings to twice weekly,” said Jonathan Orr, director of public affairs at Altarum Institute.
The new blog, which is built on a WordPress platform, allows visitors to easily search for content by type within News, Opinions and Columns categories, as well as by author, date and topic. The dynamic nature of the site keeps readers more connected to timely discussions and with thought leaders within the organization.
Healthpolicyforum.org allows Altarum to link posts to related content within the blog as well as on the main site, which further sparks dialogue with the organization by linking them to the main site’s publications and related events.
“The blog acts as a hub for health policy discussion, and the new, easy-to-navigate design keeps people on the site, connecting with information that is more complex and substantive,” said Marijka Lischak, director of education and outreach at Altarum Institute. “The easier and more intuitive it is for them to read up on this kind of information, the more relevant our organization and our mission becomes to them.”
